Why Would I Be Approved...Then Suddenly Denied?

I've lived in my apartment complex for about 5 years. I decided to transfer to a 2 bedroom from my one bedroom. I told the Manager that I would only be putting in my 30 day notice if they approved the transfer. If they did not, I'd stay in my current apartment. They approved my transfer and I gave my 30-Day...2 weeks later, they told me they denied my transfer and would not cancel my notice and I would have to just leave.I've never had problems with anyone in the office and they refused to tell me why they suddenly denied it. Now I have to find a place to live in 2 weeks. I am so confused by what's happened and I really need answers.

Something definitely smells fishy about what they did to you. However, questions such as what is this approval process? To check credit? Income? still need to be answered. Unfortunately, a landlord is under no obligation to cancel a 30-day notice. Speak to an attorney quickly to see what can be done about it. You may have claims against the manager for damages related if they initially approved you and you relied on their representation. Ask your attorney about promissory estoppel. Initial steps would be to retain an attorney to write a letter stating your position. Hopefully the letter will stop the eviction or at least delay the eviction to give you additional time to move.
