If I'm representing myself in this type of case, can I sue and be compensated for legal fees/court cost?

I am going through a lawsuit with an an ex simply because I have moved on with someone else. I broke up with this boy in 2006 but he still wanted to stay in my life knowing I was seeing other people and so was he. So, in July 2011 I met a guy I started seeing. Then around December 2011/January 2012 I became pregnant. I started back talking to my ex around March 2012 and I found out I was pregnant in May. My ex attended the doctor with me, they told me when I conceived right in front of him when was during the time we were not talking. So he knew my child was not his. I didn't let him sign the birth certificate and didn't put him on child support. He is now suing claiming I told him he was the father and he paid me child support. I want sue him for deformation, restitution, and lawyer fees

Most of the post is not relevant, and you posted almost nothing about the actual legal issues. Did he pay you for support? Where is the defamation? Restitution for what?? Lawyer fees? You actually have to have them before you can get them. You would be wasting time, energy and money trying to file this suit on your own and few lawyers would likely tell you it is worth it anyway. Hire a lawyer to resolve the current lawsuit and move on.

You have to have a lawyer to assert a claim for lawyer fees

You can't have your attorney fees paid if you don't hire an attorney. The court may make the other side pay your costs (filing fee, service fee,...)
