A girl has been talking bad about my daughter and my daughter got into a fight with her. My daughter threw the first punch. What type of charges would they be able to press?

Absent serious injury, it would be assault and battery. But it's not just up to the other girl, it's also up to the police and prosecuting authority. This works differently than on tv (particularly in the juvenile system) where someone purportedly has the authority to press charges or not.

Your daughter has committed battery against the other child. This could be a serious problem, and is not up to the other child or her parents. This will be up to the police and prosecuting attorney. I would suggest you retain an attorney for your daughter in order to fully protect her.
