Filling out I-485 and don't know what to put in "current status" and "expires on".

Here is my situation. I came to US with a J-1 visa in May 2009, my I-94 says DS (no expiration date). Then in October 2009 I switched to F-1 status and started school, after completing my BA I had a year of OPT, which expired about a year ago. Technically, now I don't have a visa or status, shout I just write out of status?

Presumably you have married a citizen. Otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question. You are an F-1 overstay. The rules about unlawful presence and going out of status for an F-1 student are a little different from the rest of us. Make the application process less stressful and at least get a consultation with a local lawyer. Good luck

The answer starts with the question of how you are eligible to apply for adjustment of status? Your question doesn't indicate this. I would strongly recommend consulting with an experienced immigration lawyer, who can analyze your situation and make sure you aren't hurt by what you say or submit to USCIS.

Yes, you have to write out of status, because you have no status at present. The important question is the basis of filing I-485 and your J-1 visa (any 2 year condition in it).
