Was this legal?

I failed a drug test upon entry to jail on a OWI testing positive for THC, the police department then disclosed to my employeer that I had failed the drug test which I was subsequently fired for...was it legal for the police department to disclose that information to my employer?
Were you fired for the positive drug test, or because your work release privileges were revoked because of the drug test, and you were unable to go to work? When a court orders a clean & sober condition of work release privileges, any failure is usually reported back to the court, becoming a part of the court record. It is not clear what, if any, expectation of privacy you had in the results.
Are you sure the police department directly notified your employer? When you fail a drug test that affects work release, it becomes part of the court record, which is public information. If your employer contacted the police asking why you were not being released, it's unlikely that it's illegal for the police to tell your employer the reason.
It is probably legal. Instead of worrying about this disclosure, you should probably spend some time and energy on getting necessary and appropriate treatment for your substance abuse issues. Losing HUBER privileges will seem insignificant if you allow your AODA issues to go unchecked.
