It is not illegal to use them. It is cheating. It is considered one of the most egregious parts of academic dishonesty and will likely get you a failure in the course and expulsion from your university.

Use of such services is likely the quickest way to fail a college class and get expelled. Don't do it.

Reap what you sow... The proliferation of writing for hire based on internet commerce marketed to college and university students will very soon cause a wholesale "reform" in scholastic assessments for admittance, grading, and credit: instructions to sit down and write 1500 - 5000 words on an assigned topic, right now, right here. No questions asked or answered. I can hear the caterwauling already and I don't even want to imagine the medical and psychological excuses that will be proffered to try to avoid this litmus test of student capability. Students are driving academia to that point -- at top speed. There will be no turning back. But, in the meantime, here's my advice to those who argue that PK and its ilk are just like other kinds of research: simply add to your paper a line at the top that reads: "This paper, submitted by [student name] was created with the paid-for services of [name of site.]." OK? If you are willing to argue that this is acceptable work, then live with your argument and put the attribution in. If you won't, then shame on you for being a hypocrite and wholly dishonest with yourself.
