I was in an argument with a guy I just met, he ended up slamming his Yukon Denali truck door on my hand. It's so badly injured I have to go to the surgeon tomorrow because it went all the way down to the ligament. I am in severe pain and the guy took off to Philadelphia.
Yes, you can sue. Call an attorney to help explain the facts. Many insurance companies have an exclusion if the act was intentional. So, if he intentionally hurt you there may be no coverage.

Yes, you can sue him.
Will you collect a dime? Unlikely.
What he did is an intentional act. You sue him individually, and unlike a typical traffic crash, his insurance company will not cover this, since it was not negligence. That means you may even get a judgment against him but then you'll have to collect it. Generally, intentional acts are not dischargeable in bankruptcy, so you have that going for you.
I'd talk to a few injury attorneys about how realistic this case is and what the options are.
You can sue, but your chances of collecting are very slim. Did you file a police report? There is a possibility that the police will investigate and perhaps charge him criminally. Restitution could be part of a disposition in a criminal matter, However, you still have the problem of collection. Your most important issue at this point is to get medical attention.
You can sue him, but as the other attorneys have commented, it may be difficult to collect any judgment. There are ways to collect a judgment of this kind, so it is worth discussing with an injury attorney.

If he did it intentionally, his insurance won't cover it. But, do you think he will tell his insurance company he did it intentionally? Probably not. If it is not intentional, then his car insurance likely will cover it. If you can prove a negligence case against him, you would be entitled to pain and suffering as well as your medical bills and lost wages among other things. Although you seem to imply it was intentional, I would advise against giving any statement. If he tells his insurance company he did not mean to slam your hand, they will likely cover the claim. If you are steadfast that it was intentional, even if he says it was an accident, you may be out of luck. Given the seriousness of your injury, I would speak to a lawyer before proceeding further. Good luck.
