I am on probation for theft and I was involved in a car accident.. It was my fault that I rear ended the car in front of me because it was raining an d roads were slippery and as I was breaking to stop on the red light and slightly hit the car in front.. There was no damage to his car just a scratch and the guy in the car only took my phone number and my full name and said to go home and not call police since it was nothing.. I took his phone and name and there was no exchange of drivers license or insurance info.. Two days later he calls me back demanding $300 to paint his bumper.. Can he go to police and report me and can the police come back after me now for hit and run and violating probation?

If you have a valid license and insurance you are not in violation of your probation.

It is not against the law or your terms to have an automobile accident. On the damages, just turn the thing over to your insurance company, be truthful and forget it. It's why you pay premiums.

Turn the information over to your insurance carrier and let them handle it. Do not admit fault. Unless you hit the car on purpose, you broke n law and will not be charged with VOP.

Being involved in an automobile accident, with nothing more, is not a violation. If the other driver alleges that you left the scene of an accident without giving information, you could be charged with that crime, and that crime could serve as a violation. But the fact that the other driver was able to call you on the phone shows that you did give him information.

The fact that your got in a car accident would not amount to probation violation unless: -You didn't have a valid driver's license or insurance; -You fled the scene of the collision -You were intoxicated or committing a crime at the time of the collision -Your terms of probation prohibited you from operating a motor vehicle However, just because the collision may not have amounted to a probation violation doesn't mean that you are not responsible for compensating the other driver for the damages to his vehicle.
