Father died in January - lawyer still hasn't had a formal reading of the will (or maybe I was overlooked). How do I get copies?

I live 5 hours away from the lawyer.

Have an attorney contact the estate attorney to find out what is going on or look to see if there is a probate filed in Kern County.

I agree with my colleagues, the formal reading of a will is a relic of he past. Once the Will is filed with the court and notices sent to the potential beneficiaries, at this point you may review the will and assert your rights. I recommend you consult an attorney.

We don't do formal will readings. They are useless and irrelevant to the filing of a petition to probate an estate under a Will. You make a demand of the nominated or named administrator in the Will.

As stated above, we do not do formal readings of the will. Whoever was nominated under the will to be the Executor of the estate will begin probate proceedings in the court of the county which your father resided in at the time of his death. You are required to receive notice of the probate proceedings.
