motion.2 mo. later they responded. Now 6 wks. later, I am still waiting for him to respond. He either does not answer my emails or is very slow to respond. I feel like I am staying on the bottom of the pile. I have asked when will you respond, but he has not indicated when he will respond.
Am I being impatient, or should I dump this attorney & find another one?
Cases take time, but it is unacceptable for an attorney not to respond when a client calls or emails. It sounds like you have trust issues with your attorney so it might be time for you to find a new one. Use the find a lawyer feature on or ask for attorney recommendations from family or friends. Pay attention to past client reviews, they can be very telling! Best of luck to you!
You should talk with other local family law lawyers to get their assessment of your situation. They will be able to see what has been done and what needs to be done in your case. Use this site to look for lawyers and talk to a few who offer free initial consultations.
One of the number one client complaints against lawyers is being non responsive to the them. I would advise that you consider your reasons for hiring this particular attorney in the first place and do as others have said and review what other options you have in the area. It is best to find someone that knows the area and knows the area of law. If you find someone else that you feel more comfortable with move on. Otherwise I would advise setting a meeting with the attorney and discussing the issues with him. It is possible that he had had some major hearings this month and you have been put on the back burner. The only way to know this is to talk with him and if he is not returning calls or even emails, I would request a face to face to see if he is going to work out for you or not.
Communication between the client and attorney is very important. However it is difficult to determine if your lawyer is just busy, or not paying attention to your case.
It is proper to seek the review of a second lawyer. The new lawyer should tell you that you are being properly served or what he recommends. The cost is usually an hour of his time and worth the money because you will either be reassured or have a new lawyer who is committed to helping you.

It is important that you trust your attorney. Once calls and emails go unreturned it undermines that trust. At the minimum I would expect if an attorney were very busy that they send a quick email explaining that. Clearly this is something that has caused you some distress -- I would suggest both letting your attorney know your concerns and see if that helps and if not I would suggest that you consult with a few other attorneys to find someone who is a better fit.
