Is it illegal for a cop to ticket me for speeding if another cop clocked me and radio ahead to pull me over?

I was pulled over for speeding by a state trooper that said another officer clocked my speed and radioed him to pull me over. I was driving my dads car. The officer did not ask me for insurance or registration but put me down as the owner of the vehicle. It was clearly a speed trap, as it was Memorial Day weekend. The officer rushed me thru the ticket so he could get back to trapping.

Hire a local attorney to resolve the ticket for you.

That could present a problem if the officer that wrote the ticket did not personally see you speeding. However, the other officer could testify at court. I would consult an attorney that handles speeding tickets. The ownership of the car would not have any bearing on whether or not you were speeding.

It's not "illegal," so to speak, but it would be problematic in court. You should definitely talk to a local attorney to see what you can do to fight the ticket. Good luck.

It's not illegal and in some areas is a pretty standard police procedure. But there are proof issues and the officers will have to be prepared for them in court. Best if you get an experienced traffic attorney to help you.

No. In fact such practice is specifically authorized under the Code of Alabama. See, Code of Alabama, 1975, section 32-5A-177 (c) which states: "(c) Any state trooper, upon receiving information relayed to him or her from a fellow officer stationed on the ground or in the air operating a speed measuring device that a driver of a vehicle has violated the speed laws of this state, may arrest the driver for violation of the laws where reasonable and proper identification of the vehicle and the speed of same has been communicated to the arresting officer." In other words, there is no requirement that the officer issuing the citation actually operated the speed measurement device.

No. It would be improper for a cop who did not observe you speeding to ticket you.
