I was told loss prevention would be in contact with me by a former employer, should i be worried, and or seek legal help?

I worked at Eddie Bauer Outlet collection in Auburn for 10 months. My last day was about a month ago, upon my departure, I bought about $300 of clothes for my new job, i found out that the clothes i bought were not in line with the dress code for my new job. I went back to return the clothes and the Co-Manager told me i was only allowed to exchange and not return. And I said "that does not make any sense", i refused to do an exchange and she said if i didn't leave she would call security, and she promptly emailed other stores about my situation. I have my receipt and i am abiding by all of their rules. The next day i went back and the Store manager was there and i said "hello i would like to talk to you about a return." She told me Loss prevention will be contacting me.

First, you should not post such specific details as the name of the employer and location. Second, it appears there could be two legal issues. First, would possibly be trespass for going back. Now, the problem for your former employer is they likely did not use the key words when they told you to leave, such as do not come back or you will be trespassed. Plus, even if they were to go after you civilly in such a situation they would have a problem proving damages. The other issue is the return. They only thing that matters on that is what does the contract say, which here would be the back of the receipt, not what you have seen other times. If the return is in their discretion, then they can say no. There is no real right to a return, or at least not because you changed your mind. Lastly, remember you do not have to talk to the LP person. Now, if you want to hire an attorney, you could for about $200 an hour, and this would likely take 3-4 hours of work over $300 in clothes, so likely not worth it (unless there are other issues they are bringing up).
