Do I need a lawyer if I am being slandered in the Internet? Is there anything I can do about it?

I am a GM at a lube shop and a customer came in for an oil change and I noticed something was broken so I let him know. Later his trucks transmission breaks down and he is blaming me, but he has somehow taken pictures of my license and posted comments on the internet. Is there anything I can do to stop it?

File a police report. You could possibly file an ex parte order of protection. Also, contact the website he posted the info on and they may take it down.

The Internet is like the wild west. Go to the source of the bad story and see if the information can be removed. The are companies out there that will post good reviews on your behalf to push the back story down the Google search page. I do not know how much they cost.

It depends on how the comments were worded. If they were couched as opinion, then you may be out of luck. If it was couched as facts, you could have actionable defamation. You need to see a tort lawyer who specializes in online defamation. Good luck.
