What happens to the person lying during a sentencing?

When the mother of a victim in a criminal case lies during the sentencing hearing after defendant signed a deal for probation. Who is to stop this person from continuing to lie. She said she has recently experienced anxiety and now on medication but her history shows she has been on anxiety medication and muscle relaxers for the last decade. She says the defendant used to beat her but there is no reports about it nor anyone to testify to this. Can anyone say anything and get away with it or when does it come to a stop.

Anytime one lies in a case on a material issue; one can be charged with perjury. However, that does not stop that person from continuing with the lie. This can only generally be successfully challenged with preparation and evidence of her medical history and with additional testimony from credible witnesses disputing her "testimony." The resolution about what to do when it comes to a stop, is: having her charged with perjury; suing her (although their might be some immunity issues); and finally a good beat down (although this is one suggestion that might lead to further litigation).
