HoA legal rights - can they dictate how homeowners use their garages? can they inspect garages for compliance without warrant?

We live in a community where the CCA states the garages cannot be used for storage, these are attached garages that are with in the 4 walls of the home. The HOA has decided it will do inspections on an on-going basis and check garages for compliance. Do they have the legal right to inspect people's garages without warrant? Furthermore, can an HoA legally dictate that homeowners cannot use their garages for storage?

You bought both real property and bought into the CC&Rs regarding use of your property. If the CC&Rs provide for use limitation and inspection, you are out of luck. I find it ridiculous that one cannot use one's garage for "storage" since it "stores" you car among other things. Every one I know uses their garage for some storage in addition to their car.

You need to take a look at your HOA documents, they may have the right to do this.
