Is it really necessary to submit form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record?

I have been a student under F1 visa for 1.5 years and I wonder if the requisite of the form I-693 is really necessary even though I am not planning in going to the medical field and have been in the States for such time.

If you are planning to adjust from the F-1 status to resident status, you must file the FORM I – 693 with your adjustment request with USCIS.

It is necessary if you plan to adjust status for any reason.

Yes, you must fill out the I-693. What you plan to do in the medical field or not is compeltely irrelevant. You need to properly have the I-693 filled out to adjust status for any reason.

The Form I-693 is required when you are applying for a "green card" (also called "permanent residency" or "immigrant status"). It is not clear from your question whether or not you plan to obtain a green card via marriage to an U.S. Citizen or through a job offer in the USA. So, for example, any time you apply for a green card you DO need to file Form I-693; BUT, if you want to change your status from F-1 to (just say, as an example) H-1B or H-4 or R-1 (these are all "non-immigrant" or "temporary" statuses) then you DO NOT need to file a Form I-693.
