Talk to a local attorney. Most of my clients never go to court, I go for them. I imagine that NC will have a similar method. Use the search for a lawyer feature here on to find one in you area. Call one up and talk directly for free.
Don't pay it off. If it's avNC license, your license will be revoked temporarily for having been convicted of driving more than 15 miles above the speed limit. Get a lawyer to represent you and the lawyer will appear in your stead.
I recommend speaking with a local traffic lawyer in regards to this matter. Even though speeding tickets are common throughout the State, they can have a very serious effect on your driver’s license and insurance rates. If you were to just pay the fine and court costs, this would be the same as admitting to the 72 in a 55. This will result in both license and insurance points which could lead to higher insurance rates and/or loss of your license. By hiring an attorney, their local knowledge of the DA/Judges will allow them to negotiate a more favorable deal for you that avoids the negative effects on your license/insurance.

Unfortunately you do not have the option of just paying the ticket as it is written (you can't waive - i.e., pay off - a ticket for an offense that would result in a suspension of your driving privilege, and this one would). Therefore, either someone - you, or in most cases an attorney appearing for you - will have to go to court unless the DA in the jurisdiction where you got the ticket is willing to amend your charge to a charge that can be waived prior to your court date.

The first thing to be aware of is that speeding more the 15 over and over 55 is an automatic revocation of you driving privilege for 30 days and it's in the discretion of the DMV to revoke it for one year. That is a criminal violation that normally requires the charged person to appear in court. Talk to an experienced traffic attorney in the Greenville area. Im sure that you can sign a waiver allowing him/her to appear for you and they should be able to negotiate an outcome to save you license and reduce the insurance consequences.
