Am I legally bound to pay rent if contract was signed but no money ever collected?
Signed contract to lease but 1st month rent was never collected by due date and no money collected since?

Yes. You are still obligated to pay all rent under the lease and the landlord may come back after you for it. Statute of limitations lasts for years to sue you so paying now would be a good idea before it comes back to bye you at a bad time.

If you have taken possession of the property under the terms of the lease you are obligated to pay rent. Normally the lease would indicate where and how the tenant is to timely remit the rent.
