Can a non-United States citizen serve as an officer on a US non-profit board?

Centered Riding Inc. is a non-profit board established in the state of Vermont and serving riding instructors world wide. Can instructors from another country serve as officers on this board? What would be pro's or con's of a non US citizen serving as an officer of a US non-profit board?
There is no legal impediment to a non-resident alien serving as an officer of a US entity, non-profit or not.
Pros and cons requires a business evaluation, not a legal evaluation.

There would not be any impediments to a non-citizen serving on such a board. There may be issues with getting that person a visa to carry out functions of the job, but that can be resolved with consultation with an immigration attorney. In fact, many non-profits are exempt from caps on employment visas like the H1B.
