Is there an automatic expiration of attorney of record?

In Florida, if a case is ended by a final judgment, does the attorney have to file to withdrawal from the case or is there a period of time after which it will expire automatically?

Typically a lawyer's involvement is done when the case is over (entry of the final judgment). A formal withdrawal does not need to be requested.

It is not required that an attorney file a Notice of Non-Representation from a case that is closed by a final judgment. The better practice is to specify in the retainer agreement when representation is concluded. My retainer clearly states that representation ends upon entry of Final Judgment, although most times there are house keeping issues that must be resolve to close the case. I agree with my colleagues that representation typically ends on entry of the final judgment. But, there can sometimes be wrinkles - such as the need to enforce terms in the judgment to make it effective that can cause a lawyer to remain counsel of record for a longer period of time. If you are uncertain whether an attorney is still representing someone, just call them and ask. If you have a legitimate reason for asking, they will probably tell you.
