I had a customer lie on me and say I was rude and now I have lost my run and some of my pay and gotten written up can I sue him

I have never said one word to him other than good morning when he says it to me I have 40 other customers who has written a paper saying I am a very nice guy can I sue for defamation of character or slander. He was mad at me because the company sent me there late I have nothing to do with that what can I do
