What can I legally do about a neighbors dog that keeps coming to my property?

Business 4 views 3 answers
The dog attacks my chickens and tries to get my dog pregnant. I've talked to the neighbors several times and the dad just leads me to his son who apologizes and does nothing. I have called animal control and they just give the dog back tot he neighbors. They had another dog that was also lose on the neighborhood and it disappeared. Less than a month later they have this new dog that is on my property every single day. Can I take the dog in and give it away to someone who will take care of him since his owners apparently don't?

There will likely be a city ordinance your neighbor is breaking by allowing the dog onto your property. First and easiest step would be taking pictures of the dog on your property and then contacting the police non-emergency phone number. It is likely if they knock on your neighbor's door with a ticket, the problem would stop.

No i would not take the dog in and give it away but have you spoken to an animal control supervisor about what your recourse is?

That would be theft of your neighbor's property. You have to look to state and local regulations that govern how to handle loose dogs.
