Can I break the lease if there is a mold problem that is not being taken care of?

We moved into this house under a one-year rental agreement (lease). Upon viewing the house and moving into it, we were told that the garage is unusable due to the previous tenants and that it would be repaired within the first few weeks. It has now been 3 months, nothing has been done, and we have a couple of other problems. We have asked for a copy of the lease at least once a week. and still have not got it. The landlord had someone show up with no prior notice to us to install AC units in a few windows. Him showing up unannounced cause me to be late to work. After waiting for him to install these units, I turned them on and left for work. I come home 10 hours later to find a pool of water under the AC unit in my bedroom, and it has caused water damage to some of my belongings.
