For a K-1 visa, the financial affidavit often required is the I-134. Some, but not all, embassies and consulates require the I-134 for K-1 visa applicants. You wouldn't need the I-864 until you are here, marry and file for adjustment of status. The I-134, if required by your consulate/embassy, must be completed after the I-129F is approved and prior to the consular interview. If your fiancée's income is insufficient, someone else can file the I-134. The standards for the I-134 are less stringent than for the I-864. Even if your specific consulate/embassy does not require the I-134 for K-1 visa applications, all consulates/embassies require some evidence that the foreign-born fiancé will have sufficient financial support during the 90-day period on the K-1 visa. Best of luck!

If your Fiance is a citizen, he can file a K-1 visa petition for you. As he is filing for a Fiance visa and not an I-130, he won't need to file an affidavit of support until you get married and the I-485 is filed. At that time, whether he makes enough money or not, he will have to file an affidavit of support. If he cannot meet the financial guidelines by himself, he can use a joint sponsor.
