I am senior loan office officer with a Michigan based direct lender. During numerous meetings, my boss (the owner) has said "perhaps we have cultural differences" when we do not agree. He has also made Jewish jokes that I do not remember the specifics of with the other owners present and a large client I have been trying to gains business.
This big client I am referring to owns 8 locations where we are trying to become the inhouse lender. The same owner making the cultural differences and Jewish remarks has been making verbal promises to me I. Regards to what I will receive if this deal goes through. As we pass each step, he keeps changing his story. I know he ultimately wants to screw me. I know dirt on this deal that the owner of the real estate company would be chocked about. Help!!

I recommend that you consult with a local employment attorney to review all the facts of your case. You also need to obtain a copy of your personnel file, employee handbook and be prepared to discuss specific instances of conduct and dates.
It really depends on what you want to accomplish...what the owner is doing is wrong in terms of referencing you religion (Jewish) in a derogatory manner. Cultural differences are not in and of themselves protected under Michigan law and religious harassment is very difficult to establish . If you can record conversation where the owner makes these references you should try and do so (you must be a party to the conversation though to record it). You can also contact the Michigan Dept. of Civil Rights.
