Will I be eligible for restricted license after my 3rd dwi? How long do I have to wait to get a restricted license in NC? If I move out to california will I get a restricted license after 6 months?

I am not licensed in North Carolina, so out of respect to any experienced DUI attorney from NC who answers your question, I would say read it first. However, my experience in general with DUI is that on a third DUI you will not be eligible for a restricted license at all. In CA, where I am licensed, you cannot receive a restricted license after six months.

It depends on the age of the DWI convictions. The general rule is that upon your third conviction for DWI, you will receive a permanent suspension, which will require a DMV hearing to reinstate your driving privilege. However, if some of your convictions are very old (30+ years), this doesn't seem to apply, as the rules were different then. Pull a copy of your driving history and seek a consultation from an attorney here in NC. I am not licensed in CA, so I cannot speak to that. However, an attorney in CA should be able to give you a consultation regarding that issue.

If you have just picked up your 3rd DWI a restricted license should be the last of your worries. Depending on the facts of your case you may be looking at up to 3 years in jail. This is very serious and I would recommend that you hire an attorney quickly.

Not in NC. Your license will be revoked permanently with the possibility of a license restoration hearing years into the future. The transfer of revocations from state to state is complicated. In my experience, there are discrepancies in communication between the DMV of NC and various other states (California is one) that sometimes benefit drivers. The prospect of a restricted license in CA is ultimately controlled by the DMV there so please consult a knowledgeable CA traffic attorney for a complete answer.
