Why did the judge deny him bond? He is a college student and parents are vouching for him.

Son was arrested on 3/2015 for misdemeanor possession less than ounce of marijuana and bonded out, he was re arrested 5/2015 as part of a Felony marijuana sales sting. DA denied bond, then judge denied bond. I'm being told we have to wait until indictment now. He is a college student 4 hours away from home and is not a flight risk, parents are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure he will come to court. Why wont the judge give him a bond? He is not a danger to anyone but himself. I'm being told to wait until indictment, is he guaranteed a bond after that? Is there anything else I can do??
If he was out on bond at the time of the first offense and then violated the terms of that bond by committing the second offense then judge can revoke the first bond. Additionally if the sale charge went in front of magistrate judge then that judge does not have jurisdiction to set bond on a sale charge.

Harming other people is not the only consideration in allowing a bond. The court must also consider the probability of your son committing another criminal act. The different facts of your son's situation that you reference are, unfortunately, very similar to the things that all accused people say in asking for bail.
I agree with both of the other two attorney responses. No, there is not promise of a bond after indictment. Get lawyered up. Keith Barber, comes to mind.
