I received a background check that stated I had a warrant in GA for failure to appear and want to know how to resolve this?

I believe it was for a speeding ticket in 2005. Is it possible to take care of this while not traveling to the state and what kind of fines or penalties am I looking at?

These type of questions are state specific but typically I would start by calling the Clerk of Court for the county or township where the ticket originated. They may be willing to provide you with both details of what happened as well as possible ways to fix it. It may be necessary to hire a local lawyer to be certain that the warrant is removed. Start with the court clerk. If that doesn't resolve it then you can retain local counsel

Yeah, an attorney can probably help you get this cleared up without you having to show up. Call a lawyer in that area. Look for one right here on avvo.

Yes. Hire a local attorney to handle this matter for you. You are most likely facing a fine plus a $100 penalty for missing court.

Penalties for missing court depend on the court. While some are $100, others can be more (some counties/municipalities I have seen charge 150-200). The fine depends on what you negotiate with the solicitor who is prosecuting your charges. That negotiation is up to you or the attorney you hire to resolve these issues for you. Also, if you have a FTA chances are you may have a suspended license in Georgia as well. Whenever a court issues an fta they are required to notify the Georgia DDS who then suspends your driving privileges until you resolve the issue.
