Can I get immigration status in Canada after I expunge my criminal case?
Anonymous4 views3 answers
I had a criminal case that will be expunged very soon. I am currently interested to immigrate to Canada under skilled worker or any possible status. I currently received my PhD. degree and am interested to move and find new opportunity in Canada, but after I expunge my only criminal case.
Do I have an immigration status chance in Canada?
1. Please be advised that I already consulted an attorney about the chance to expunge my criminal case, and he confirmed that I meet the requirements and I should be able to get the case removed from my record through the expunge process.
2. Also, please be advised that I currently live in the U.S. and under deportation/immigration supervision. My original nationality is Palestinian.
Please advise
Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately attorneys only practice law generally in the United States. You will have to obtain an immigration attorney in Canada who is familiar with Canadian immigration laws. They are called "Barristers" or "Solicitors" in Canada. In the United States we are only licensed to practice in a state[s] and Federally with respect to immigration.
U.S. attorney are not qualified to discuss Canadian law as we are generally not licensed or barred in Canada. Please note that under U.S. law (no idea what Canadian law states), an expunging a conviction does NOT make it go away for immigration purposes - you would still have to disclose it and it would still count against you.
