The fact that you were selected for DV program or that your country is in a civil war, do not, without more, make you eligible for asylum. Talk to an immigration lawyer.

You qualify for asylum in the US if you have been persecuted or have a “well-founded fear of persecution” in your country based on (1) political opinion, (2) religion, (3) race, (4) nationality, or (5) membership in a particular social group.
Use Form I-589 to apply for asylum. Attach a detailed affidavit and documentation in support of your application. There is no filing fee.
If your case is strong... No attorney here can answer this question. You need to meet with a lawyer to go over every little detail. In terms of eligibility, read instructions to form I 589.
1. First and foremost if you are going to apply for asylum you have to retain an immigration attorney. It is worse to pursue an asylumc laim without an attorney than representing yoruself on a criminal case. The numebrs do not lie: asylum applicants without lawyers generally fail at an alarming rate.
2. Generally an asylum applicant must file for asylum within one year of being admitted into the country otherwise you will have to prove exceptional circumatnces which is usually a death sentence if your reason is "I forgot to file".
3. There's ZERO ability for us to evaluate your case because you ddi not consult with us and we are not your attorneys. Attorneys on give general principles about asylum we don't assess cases. How on earth are we supposed to know that?
4. If you want to apply for asyum you have to establish that you fear returning to your home country because the government or its agents will specifically persecute you. It is not a defense to deportation because your visa numbers are slow. And simply being from a gulf state will nto suffice for why YOU specifically will be persecuted. However you need to have your case assessed by an immigration attorney.
Many attorneys give free consultations so you have no reason to not call one immediately.
