Will retail hire someone with Shoplifting On their Records?

Criminal Charges 6 views 7 answers
I had a Court-appointed lawyer, he said that the Charges will be dropped down to Larceny, he said its like getting a ticket for leaving the garbage out on the street. Is that True?

You may want to setup a consultation with a criminal lawyer to review this, as it could depend on the facts and this question may be well beyond the scope of what you can get for free advise.

It will stay on your records and if a background check is performed it will most probably be found. Whether you can still get the job depends on the employer,, how long ago it happened, how you present yourself....

Each store has its different hiring policies. The best thing you can do is to sit down with an experienced attorney and discuss your exposure in terms of employment as well as possible expungement eligibility, if any.

theft or larceny is al crime which will stop most employers from hiring you. Who wants a thief as an employee? You need to check the court records for yourself to find out what you pled guilty to. If it was theft you need to go back to court based on ineffective assistance of counsel t to reopen the matter and plead guilty to something which will not scare awat a potential employer. You need to check with the court to make certain that you know what happened in court because no decent lawyer would tall you pleading guilty to larceny is not al big deal.

Your lawyer has advised you. Ask him if this conviction will hurt you if you try to get a job that involved money or warehousing, for example.

No. NJ does not have larceny we have theft. It is a DP if that is the charge. It is on your criminal history unlike leaving your garbage out. He could mean an ordinance although that is rare since CD came in. If so then the ordinance is not on your CCH but the arrest is still there and you cannot expunge for 2 years.
