How can I apply for a visa (such as a student visa) if I ultimately want to live in the US permanently? The student visa is supposed to be temporary. Thanks for your help

You cannot file a self petition to move to the U.S. in order to get your CPA and work as an accountant.

You may consider H-1B visa, which is an employer sponsored work visa and allows you to apply for employment based green card later. If you want to study in the US, you can come on a student visa, then transfer status to H-1B. Feel free to contact me if you need further evaluation of your case.

You will have to come in on an F-1 student visa, go to business school, obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Bus. Admin., with Accounting and/or Finance as your major, then apply for an "optional practical training" work permit for one year upon graduation, which will enable you to get to know employers and have them appreciate how good you are & hopefully convince them to file an H-1B professional worker's work visa on your behalf, as well as petition you for a "Green Card". That's how it works. You cannot "self-petition", and will need an employer.

If you are from Canada or Mexico a TN visa may be an option and although only temporary in nature, it can be renewed multiple times. Good luck!
