I was hired by a large tech firm in the San Francisco bay area two years ago with an offer letter to join them as "Web Producer". I just found out today by random chance that they changed my title this January without telling me to the title of "Producer", a title that is on average paid a lot less on the open market. If someone else called them to confirm what my role has been, they would confirm the lesser paid title. I see this as potentially having a detrimental impact on my CV, future career, pay and opportunities and is not what I agreed to. What is my recourse? Is this legal?

You have no legal recourse. An employer can change call you "Chief Break Room Manager" if it wishes and you have no say over that decision unless you can establish an unalterable contractual right to a different title. Your best move would be negotiation. Good luck to you.
