That is always better, unless you are the kind of person that files his/her own tax returns, but this process is much more complicated than fling taxes on your on on "Turbo Tax" or similar.. It's an illogical process filed with an otherwise overworked, understaffed and somewhat intolerant agency that is USCIS. Working with a competent immigration attorney will take the stress out of what risks becoming a highly stressful situation, where each mistake and/or omission will set you aback by months, as well as ensure smooth, efficient and speedy process. Depending on how busy your CIS district is, should take anywhere between 3 and 6 months, from start to finish.

You should use a lawyer if you are unfamiliar with the process. Timing varies for a US citizen/foreign national green card but can typically be completed in under 6 months. Best, Patrice Dziire, Esq.

Hiring a lawyer means you are avoiding any possible mistake you could make if you decide to do it yourself. And if you do make those mistake it will make it longer to get your green card. And the process usually takes about 180 days. All the best.

You can prepare and file everything yourself, but as a practical matter it is better to go through an attorney unless you are absolutely certain of what you're doing. As with anything in life, the surest way to make sure things are done correctly the first time is to find an expert to assist you. And when the consequences of a mistake are as dire as they are in the immigration world, gambling that you can do it right the first time without assistance isn't a very good idea. With or without a lawyer, the process generally takes six to eight months, although it can be faster or slower than that depending on current USCIS case load and the specific issues present in your case.

You are not required to hire a lawyer. It is advisable to hire an attorney as he/she can guide you through the process and hopefully, ensure the case receives a favorable decision as quickly as possible. The process will take approximately 6 to 8 months depending where you live and number of request for evidence received.

Yes you absolutely should hire an attorney. The reason is because you have to prove that your marriage is bona fide, not just married. This is a legal standard and circumstantial evidence is used to establish it. It's good that you recognize that you need an attorney to help you with this. Need, as in absolutely should. Yes While you always "can" go pro per, you absolutely have to have an attorney for these types of immigration issues: Political Asylum (Affirmative/Defensive), Waiver of Inadmissibility, Anything Immigration Court (Both in and out of custody). The reason why an attorney is so important is that unlike criminal court, immigrants do not have rights. They have privileges. That means NO ONE in the court room or immigration office is on your side. You even have to bring your own interpreter. Whereas in criminal court you have actual rights.
