You could be charged with felony grand theft, because the amount is over $300. With no priors, you could be offered a first time offender program. Do not discuss the circumstances of the crime publicly. Hire an attorney and good luck!

I agree with Ms. Faenza, grand theft is a third degree felony, an attorney should be able to get you into a diversion program that will leave your with a clean record, assuming this is your first.

Theft over three hundred dollars ($300) is third degree felony with maximum punishment of five (5) years in prison. Conviction of theft of any amount is crime of dishonesty, which means it can be used against you in court in the future. Conviction of any crime cannot be sealed or expunged. Conviction of a felony strips you of many civil rights. Conviction of a felony theft combines all of those things to result in punishments extending far beyond the courtroom. If you have been accused of this crime, hire an attorney and speak only with that person about the situation. Do not post anything on this or any other online forum about the accusations against you. I hope this was helpful. Good luck.
