Are Attorney Services Considered A Consumer Transaction In Wisconsin

Are Attorneys "Merchants" for purposes of debt collection pursuant to Consumer Transaction statutes of Wisconsin? In other words, can a Attorney file a debt collection action for a money judgment for their fees under the Wisconsin Consumer Transaction statutes in a Wisconsin court of law?

Your question is a little confusing. I can't tell if you are asking if an attorney suing a client for legal services rendered is legal under the Wisconsin Consumer Protection statutes, or if you are asking if an attorney can recover attorney fees against someone he sues for violating the Wisconsin Consumer Protection statutes. That said, I will answer both of those questions with a yes. An attorney is not violating the Wisconsin consumer protection act by filing a lawsuit against clients that don't pay their bills. Also, if an attorney successfully sues someone else for violating the Wisconsin Consumer Protection Act, they are able to recover the attorney fees that the victim of the violation had to pay them to work the case.
