Statute of limitations?

Is there a statute of limitations on unpaid traffic tickets in Texas? I have 3 tickets that the city would not work out a payment plan that I could afford or offer me community service, so they went ot warrant status. One is over 4 years old, the other 2 almost 3. They're in collections now. Are they still active warrants now that they have given them over to a collection agency?

Yes there is a statute of limitations - but it would not apply in your case. The limitations would apply if you were never charged with the offense and an officer issued a citation years later; however, in your case you were charged right after the alleged offense. If the tickets are several years old, a traffic ticket attorney can likely get some - if not all - of the tickets dismissed. As far as your warrants - they are still active even though the citation was turned over to a collection agency. An attorney can post a surety appearance bond, which will lift the warrants.
