Refinanced early 2013 with home equity loan, TD bank got a payoff quote from company and paid it. Got a receipt saying satisfaction. Had to obtained Home Insurance, pay property taxes since the former stopped payment. Never heard from them again until May 2014 when they sent us notifications saying we owed them several thousands of dollars. Since I was in the hospital, wife called and said we paid them off. They insisted we owe them. After hanging up, wife called city hall about deed, and they never released it to TD bank. I obtained a lawyer, and paperwork was sent, but no results. Everyday for the last 14 months they call 3-5 times everyday. We told them we have a lawyer on it, but it doesn't matter. I've haven't heard from my lawyer. What do I do?.

Sounds like you need a new lawyer. There is a mortgage satisfaction law and the mortgage holder must comply or face severe penalties. This has gone on far too long. Go engage in another consult with a new lawyer.

You need to bring what is called a "quiet title" action. You will need a lawyer for this. Link to an article explaining this is below.
