$1000-$10,000+. Depends on the area, your history, facts, resources employed, experience, etc... Best thing to do is all around and find 3 or 4 attorneys in your price range. Most will meet with you for a free initial consultation. You can then pick one you like or keep looking.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Like Mr. Lawrence stated, the fees can vary. You should meet with a local criminal defense attorney in your area to discuss your options and at least familiarize you with what you can expect in the future. Good luck.

There are a very wide range of fees depending on a number of factors and there are also different methods of paying depending on the attorney. Factors that will influence price will be the location of the attorney, their experience, volume of their practice, how much time is put into your case, etc. Some attorneys charge flat fees, some charge hourly. Some will allow payment plans, many won't. If you're in the Seattle area I would say expect to pay 5-10,000. If you're in a different part of the State that might be 1500-5,000. I personally would be wary of an ultra cheap rate because you tend to get what you pay for. Likewise, I believe there is only so much an attorney can really do on a DUI despite the claims they may advertise, so also be wary of a fee that is too high. Attorneys usually take credit cards, but many disfavor payments. Bottom line, if you are "broke" it is doubtful that you will be able to afford a private attorney and you should apply for a court appointed attorney. Many of them will do just fine at handing a DUI case. Good luck.

You already answered your own question. If you don't have the funds to hire a private attorney you ask for court appointed attorney. Most public defenders are very very very good lawyers

Most DUI lawyers will work with you on a payment plan to pay off a fee dependent on the DUI and circumstances surrounding your arrest. If you have a bunch of priors and the case against you is strong or questionable but the prosecutor wants to go after you, you could be looking at $5,000 to $10,000. If you have a good chance of a plea deal, good facts, and no priors, somewhere between $2,500 to $5,000. If you cannot afford this, consider asking the court to provide you with a public defender. They are great at what they do, so do not confuse them with incompetent lawyers. Best of luck!

I highly recommend talking to several attorneys and finding one you like and trust. Depending on the facts, your criminal history, and where this occurred, rates can vary widely. Some attorneys are more willing to work with you on payment plans, or creative ways to pay for your fee as well. Many offer a free consultation.
