Whether or not you are employed is irrelevant to whether or not you can be sued. If you owe the debt and it remains unpaid, sooner or later the creditor can bring a civil action and obtain a judgment. Depending on the laws of your State, that judgment may constitute a lien on your real estate, if any, and can be the basis for a levy and execution of your personal property. Moreover, the judgment remains "of record" for many years after it is entered.
