Can I sue Hughes Net Internet if they have lied to me?

Business 6 views 4 answers
I live out in the country so I don't have many internet choices because there are not many internet service providers here so I chose Hughes net thinking it was a good choice, terribly wrong. We called and asked about all the plans, data caps, etc. and we specifically asked if there was a contract involved. They told us there was not, that it could be canceled any time we want, they absolutely lied to us and now we are stuck with terrible internet that loads 70% of the time, at the price of $70 a month. We've had it for a couple months but I wasn't paying, my parents were (all this happened to them) and they never told me of the high price or terrible quality and how they got lied to. So I'm wondering, could I sue them for this? They are ruining his credit and will take even more $ 2 cancel

Yes, you can sue, but the question is how do you prove the claim. You are going to need evidence to support your claim with objective evidence such as written emails and agreements being best. Given the amount paid, this may well be a small claims matter as well where you will need to represent yourself.

If you have written or recorded proof that you were lied to, then you can pursue your case judicially (most likely in small claims court). If no such proof exists, then try speaking with a higher-level manager at Hughes. They may be able to work with you.

If there is a written contract, it usually cancels all the salesman's verbal representations.

Proof is going to be an issue. I will note that there was a class action settlement with them in 2012 for pretty much the exact same things you are complaining about here. It makes me wonder if there is possibility for an additional class action now. Feel free to call our office to discuss.
