I need certificate of disposition of court case but am too far from LA county to go to clerk myself. Can someone get it for me?

I was arrested in 1976 in Los Angeles for drug possession. Small amount, case was either dismissed or I pled NoLo, don't remember. The county where I have applied for Weapons permit got the arrest record, but it does not show disposition of the case. The county wants that information in order to decide whether or not to grant the weapons permit. I live in GA, too far to go to the LA county clerk myself. Hence my question, Can someone else get it for me? Can I authorize someone to do that? Thank you!
Yes, but here's your problem. It is unlikely gone, zip, zelch, tossed since it's prior to 1980. Otherwise it is in the Hall of Records and may take forever to find so my advice is to get a friend or family member to look for it. Otherwise it may cost more than your budget to find it. Good luck.
As long as the document you want is part of the public record, anybody could get a certified copy from the clerk's office. There are document service companies that file/retrieve things all the time. A quick google search will find you several. Pick one close to the courthouse where you need the document from since they'll likely be at that branch all the time and can get it efficiently.

It's public record. Anyone can look at it. You can call the Los Angeles courthouse and see if they will mail it to you for a small fee. You can also try finding a attorney service/document service locally that will go to the courthouse for you and mail it to you. However, as already mentioned, there's a high likelihood that the file itself has already been destroyed due to its age. As a backup plan, I would recommend getting a criminal history report from the California Department of Justice. The California Department of Justice will have a record of your criminal history, including what happened in each case. Details are at http://www.oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/security
It would be expensive to hire an attorney to do this. You should get the number for an "attorney service" company near the courthouse you were in. They go to the court clerks daily and can hopefully find the file and get a certified copy. You can find them on Google. It will be less expensive if you have the actual case number. There is also a chance that the file has been destroyed and may not be available..
