Breaking the lease before starting the lease date due to health concerns for Dormitory in Brooklyn, NY.

I have signed an agreement for lease for a semester and paid the entire amount along with the deposit. But, due to health concerns I moved out of state to different college. The dorm kept my entire deposit along with the entire semester's rent. I have stayed there for four days before the lease which I paid for it separately but moved out before the lease start date. Can I get my rent and deposit back ?

Possibly if the dorm is rented to someone else that could be an offset to what you would have otherwise been liable for. But the law is that if you break the lease you are liable for the balance if the rent. It might be a good idea to have an attorney review the dorm lease agreement to see if there is anything in it that would allow you to break the lease but thus is probably grasping at straws.
