What are some government funded help that an immigrant can use to help them, such as food stamps etc.?

My mom is a green card holder who has immigrated to the US last year. She now works but her salary is low. She has 2 underaged children who are citizens living with her and on 19 year old who is working part time (also a citizen). I am the person who signed the affidavit of support. I do provide some monetary assistance but even with that they are still struggling. Is there any assistance out there that can assist them legally even though I signed a form saying I would support them financially?

Unfortunately, most states require the green card holder to be in such status for at least 5 years prior to applying for aid. I always recommend speaking with your local state department of welfare to see what, if anything, your mom is eligible for. Each state varies, especially if she has young children.

Check for the children under 18 who are US citizens to see whether they have identifiable parent who owes or should pay child support, and whether the U.S. children are eligible for state care programs. If mother entered as a refugee, or was granted LPR based on VAWA or so either special immigrant status, mother may be eligible for some benefits.
