Passport

ok so I'm on 10 year conditional release I have 8 years left. I was told by several lawyers id be able to obtain a passport but it is up to the supervising agent if ill be allowed to travel. I can leave state granted permission. so I'm seeing again if I'm able to obtain a passport. I don't believe id have trouble getting it the trouble would be using it. correct? thank you very much for your responses.
Yes, you are correct. Even if you were granted a passport, it will be up to the probation agent whether you can travel and use it. They will need to be notified when you plan to travel and where you plan to go, how long you will be gone, and then approve it.

If you are a U.S. citizen, you can get a passport, regardless of your criminal record or release status. A passport is only internationally recognized proof of citizenship. As far as the U.S. is concerned, your criminal record is irrelevant to whether you can get a passport. Whether you can travel out of state or out of the country depends on the terms of your supervision. (The terms of your supervision may also preclude you from obtaining a passport, so you better check with your po before you do so.)

Sounds like you're under Minnesota Department of Corrections supervision. My understanding is that they do not allow international travel - no exceptions. I haven't encountered the issue myself - just what I've heard on the streets. You should ask your supervising agent to confirm.
