I cook everyday for my family. I want to sell the same cooked food to people. These are perishable everyday food, like meat curry, rice, bread, pasta etc. Can I do it? Do I need any license? Is there a limit on the quantities I can serve? Is there a limit on the dollar amount I can earn?

For what you seem to be attempting, you will need to get permits and licenses, along with liability insurance. This is an extremely dangerous area to get into and you should tread very carefully because of the dangerousness of food-borne illness. On the other hand, you may also look into the CA Cottage Food Operations Act. There are certain foods that would require less licensing and inspections requirements and can be sold from your home. But those are limited to foods which do not contain certain ingredients. In this case, your income would be limited. You can read more about it here: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/pages/fdbcottagefood.aspx

You definitely need a license, plus several types of permits and be subjected to visits by health officials and the like. You would not be permitted to sell food products to anyone without it being established that it was safe and sanitary. You need to hire a lawyer who handles this kind of work, probably someone who creates corporations and the like. That lawyer can fill you in on what kind of licenses and permits you need as well as prepare the legal documents that are necessary.

I agree that it is a plan which is risky because sanitation regulations are very important, and home cooking is usually substandard as to public food sales. Your elected representative at the city level could help you for free That office may refer you to your local health department, usually at the county level, but in some jurisdictions with state or the city. Even if it is legal because you obtain proper inspections, permits, zoning, and licenses, you are responsible for sickening anyone and a commercial liability policy is essential with a specific coverage for selling food products.
