It can depend on the specific sentence the judge put you for your probation and the type of crime you pled to. Congress has recently passed legislation that makes it easier for individuals to restore their gun rights for certain felonies. I would need more specific information to help you, give me a call if you want more specific advice.

Hey there, so this is a bit more complicated then it looks like on its face because of the details that go into it, but Utah Code Ann. 76-10-503 deals with this situation. In most situations possessing a firearm or dangerous weapon can lead to additional charges. Dangerous Weapon is defined in Utah Code Ann. 76-10-501(6)(A) as (a) "Dangerous weapon" means: (i) a firearm; or (ii) an object that in the manner of its use or intended use is capable of causing death or serious bodily injury. Part (b) gives further guidance as to how it should be classified. See below: (b) The following factors are used in determining whether any object, other than a firearm, is a dangerous weapon: (i) the location and circumstances in which the object was used or possessed; (ii) the primary purpose for which the object was made; (iii) the character of the wound, if any, produced by the object's unlawful use; (iv) the manner in which the object was unlawfully used; (v) whether the manner in which the object is used or possessed constitutes a potential imminent threat to public safety; and (vi) the lawful purposes for which the object may be used. Looking at those, a Compound or Cross Bow are probably closer to being dangerous weapons then say a pellet or air gun, but again I would probably speak with a qualified attorney and have them research this issue and see if the court has ruled on those items specifically in the past.
