How long does first DUI in CA stay on your driving record?

A friend that is a commercial truck driver was convicted of a DUI a few years back (2001-02). He was at the limit for his license (haz mat). However, he was convicted because he admited he had a drink. He is looking for a new company but wants to know how long will it stay on his driving record, because he has to have a DMV print out with a application.

Understand that commercial drivers are treated differently under the law for DUI purposes in California they have a lower standard than that of a typical individual driver. As far as it being on his record it should stay on for at least ten years. The reason for that is if he gets another DUI within that ten year period he would be subject to greater penalties than that of a first time DUI. I would have to assume that the DUI will still show on his DMV print out. I cannot tell you whether or not a DUI from 7-8 years ago would prevent him from getting hired at a new company. All I can assume is that it will not look great.

DUIs stay on your record for many years and depend on the local state law. Washington has a horrible law that prevents one from ever removing it from your record. California? I don't know. Please contact any of the very well qualified attorneys in your jurisdiction for a free consultation.
