If you co-sign a bail bond, is there a way to later be removed off the bail bond?

I am in a difficult situation. My bf is in jail and wants me to bail him out. We have had a rocky relationship and the case may not be for another 9 months. If I co-sign and later we break up I wouldn't want to continue to be responsible for him? Are there ways to get out of it later on? Can he later put up collateral to replace my name? I even considered hiring him a lawyer instead, do lawyers usually help bail out their clients?

You bail him out, you're stuck. SOME lawyers do bonds, but not all. If you don't think you'll be together in 9 months, you might want to just end it now.

If your boyfriend has a surety bond, you can pay around 10% to a bonding company to post the bond and then THEY are on the hook for him, not you.

You could perhaps file an Affidavit with the Court per TCCP 17.19 to get off the bond but it would likely require you hiring an attorney to do this for you and hence would cost money.
