Is my 17 year old able to sue her dad for money that he owes her that she has worked for?

My daughter has been working almost 2 years and her father, my ex husband has been taking almost all of her money from her and not letting her have any of it. He is spending it all. She wanted to save it for when she's 18 so she can get on her feet and buy a car and things like that. She has less then 200 dollars in her account because he has taken all of it. Is there anything she can do about him taking all of her money that she has worked for and earned?

It depends on how her account was set up. If it is a minor's account (UGMA or UTMA) then she may have a cause of action for her father's breach of fiduciary duty (assuming he is the parent in control of the account). It will depend on what the money was actually spent on. If he used the money to provide for her, then she has no claim. In the short term, you should open an account for her and have her put her money there, where dad can't get to it. Or she can cash her paychecks and put the cash somewhere safe.
